TOPS
Shirts that can be modified are a great help in the daily dressing routine. Be sure to purchase a few inexpensive shirts that could be tailored to fit around a halo and vest. These could be cut to fit around the stabilizing bars.

Families with children in halos have found the addition of snaps very helpful.

Velcro may also assist with adaptation.

In the cooler months a jacket will be needed for warmth when outside. Jackets can be altered in much the same way as shirts.

UNDERWEAR
The undergarment may include a stockinette, which is like a tee-shirt underneath the vest. This is placed at the time of the vest and halo application.

The vest will also be lined with sheepskin. Do not place anything under the vest.

Normal underpants are allowed.

SHOES
The doctor will determine your patient’s ability to walk. Do not wear high-heeled shoes! Shoes and boots with low heels and traction are best for safety.

Your patient may have a change in balance, which may increase the likelihood of slipping and falling. Remember to be especially careful during the winter months with icy and/or wet conditions.

Walking in a well-lit mall is an ideal way to exercise and to reduce the risk of slipping or falling during rainy or winter weather.
