Department Executive Vice-Chair;
Division Chief, Pediatrics

The Division of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery consists of four faculty members (including myself) and one fellow, each having a special area of expertise, as well as practicing general orthopaedics.

Dr. John Tis specializes in care of the young athlete, including hip arthroscopy.

Dr. Arabella Leet specializes in cerebral palsy and osteogenesis imperfecta. She also works in the laboratory to find new treatments for patients with low bone density.

Dr. Michael Ain specializes in treatment of skeletal dysplasias.

I have a special interest in spine deformity and genetic disorders.

Our current fellow, Dr. Dirk Leu, has an interest in pediatric trauma and will be doing a trauma fellowship next year. Dr. Leu has done research on hip spica cast outcomes, which has been widely presented, most recently at this year’s annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in New Orleans.

Our division has also recently published work on identifying risk factors for implant-related fractures and has showed that the hip has by far the highest risk. We have also developed a new technique for pelvic fixation during spine surgery.

Pediatric Orthopaedics addresses the whole range of needs of the growing spine. As such, we also have several adjunct faculty members, such as Drs. Kristy Weber, Dawn LaPorte, and Samer Attar. With this outstanding team, we are able to provide the best care for growing children.
