Thank you for your interest in the Johns Hopkins Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training Program. Since July 1997, we have participated in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

The deadline for receipt of applications and all required documentation is October 24, 2008.

Required documentation includes:

  • board scores,
  • four (4) recommendation letters from clinical faculty,
  • and a personal statement.

Dean's letters and transcripts will be the only documentation accepted after the deadline.

Applications and documentation are only accepted through the ERAS system.

Interviews will be held Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7, 2008.

Applicants will be informed of interviews via ERAS e-mail. Applicants not chosen for interviews will also be contacted by ERAS e-mail.

CLINICAL ELECTIVE ROTATIONS

Information on Orthopaedic clinical electives/rotations should be directed to vismed@jhmi.edu or call 410-955-3080.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited medical school is the first prerequisite for acceptance into the program. All applications are reviewed and interviews for prospective candidates are arranged on the basis of medical school record, research experience, extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation. Competition is exceptionally high, with many more outstanding applicants than openings each year.

Benefits

All residents are appointed Fellows of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and can take advantage of graduate student discounts on many social activities and performing arts programs on and off campus. Other benefits include medical and dental care, income protection, liability insurance, uniforms and laundering, paid vacation and an annual stipend.

Resident Education Fund

Resident Education Fund allowances are given to PGY-4 and 5 level residents. The allowances range from $900 to $1,800 annually and are used for travel to orthopaedic meetings. On approval by the chairman, residents giving papers at peer-reviewed meetings receive direct support for travel to the meetings over and above the normal resident education allowance.
